This week's talk featured our Director, Prof. John Wihbey, on "AI and Social Media: Global Perils and Governance Possibilities." The session examined how generative AI has become the operating system behind modern social platforms, reshaping content discovery and giving rise to synthetic media and AI-driven accounts. Wihbey compared regulatory approaches across the EU, US, China, and India, and proposed a new governance framework, drawn from his book Governing Babel, that targets platform infrastructure and conduct rather than content itself.
